Sarlat to Rocamadour

About 150km starting from Sarlat.

Direction SOUILLAC – to ROUFILLAC, cross the bridge to the right, direction SAINT JULIEN DE LAMPON and rejoin SAINTE MONDANE by the D50. Visit the Chateau de Fenelon, a furnished, feudal fortress (15th -19th century).

SOUILLAC
: Beautiful abbey church with cupola.  Musée des Automates.  

PINSAC: Chateau de la Treyne. At the confluence of the Dordogne and the Ouysse rivers: the chateau of Belcastel (14th century) perched on the cliff top.
LACAVE: Visit the Grottes de Lacave (cave with concretions - access by a small train); Prehistologia (prehistoric park retracing the evolution of the species).

ROCAMADOUR: important pilgrimage centre on the route to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. A town dedicated to the Virgin Mary and its statue of the Black Madonna. Visit its sanctuaries and the medieval town. Visit the Féerie autour du rail, la Forêt des Singes (monkeys) and the prehistoric caves of the Merveilles.

Direction ALVIGNAC – PADIRAC: visit the impressive Gouffre de Padirac (crystalline concretions and boat trip on the underground river): one of the most important in Europe and the most visited site in the Midi-Pyrenees region.  Go back towards ALVIGNAC.
Go back on the N 140 towards GRAMAT: visit the Parc Animalier (a zoo where you can see 150 animal species); go on via the picturesque villages of AUTOIRE, LOUBRESSAC and CARENNAC, three of the Most Beautiful Villages of France in the Lot.  Return to Souillac and then Sarlat.
